In the name of God
Recently the health policy makers have been interested in alternative/complementary medicine for achieving the phenomenon of sustainable health and treatments with lower side effects. On the basis of such social demand, major policy of faculty of traditional medicine and the Research Institute for Islamic and Complementary Medicine (Iran University of Medical Sciences) as the first academic center, which is training the traditional medicine specialists in PhD level and has the name of complementary medicine in its title could have somehow organize the scattered demands of people by holding different courses in the fields of alternative/complementary medicine and traditional medicine and increase servicing quality by promoting scientific level of physicians in this field. “Behesht Medical Complex” which is the largest traditional medicine clinic in the country was created through such policy.
An important characteristic of the holistic physicians (traditional and alternative/complementary medicine) is that they usually use natural and unaggressive treatments, have multilateral attitude which includes all aspects of health, allow their patient to participate in treatment trend and emphasize that health is an individual case and patients are responsible for achieving their desirable health condition. This model reduces stress of therapist in the treatment process and also allows the patients to cooperate with the physician in selection of the best therapeutic model based on their special conditions in the field of participative medicine. In the presented models of medicine, selection of relations between patient and therapist experiences different styles. By changing the value systems at the global community level and the tendency of people to participate more in all affairs, even their health, traditional and complementary medicine have been demanded by the people and their pressure on policymakers for meeting this demand has led to the provision of services in many countries in the academic level. This phenomenon is being expanded into other countries.
Those who hold this congress hope to introduce policymakers of the health system of the country to the potential and actual abilities of traditional medicine and pharmacy and complementary medicine to execute the policies of paragraph 12 of the health document in the statements of the Supreme Leader.
